Cornering the Crypto app market for new investors

Product & UX Strategy

Personal project (2025)

Background

I'm a fan of finance and investing and a user of Coinbase however I've had my fair share of 'Cryptofails'. I wanted to design an investing app that helps new investors (or those who don't understand Crypto) to avoid these fails and navigate this risky opportunity.

I also wanted to flex my strategic mindset and mobile/app design skills.

Real world problem

Millions have access to the Crypto investing opportunity, however they lack knowledge and make poor decisions in a high risk environment. They are scared to invest or lose money and are inactive or churn from investing apps.

Opportunity

Bitcoin has been called the 'new gold' and Altcoins and Meme coins have the potential for huge growth. Young people today may not make hundreds of thousands from property, and stock markets may only return a reasonable return once inflation is accounted for. Therefore, Crypto could be the opportunity for this generation to create wealth.

Most apps do not tackle the complexities of investing and Crypto fully. Customers are left to fend for themselves and often make mistakes. It's a casino for many.

Solution

Cryptowise's market is excited but under-educated and confused. FOMO leads to panicked, impulsive decision making. Therefore our brand will be:

  • Calm & considered
  • Balanced & calculated
  • Educated & informed
  • Helpful & responsible

We will keep our heads when all about us are losing theirs.

I have created a Product and UX strategy that:

  • Applies traditional investing techniques (diversification, regular top-ups, rebalancing etc)
  • Enables users to learn about Crypto, investing and finance news
  • Reduces and limits the chances of users making poor/impulsive decisions
  • Motivates users to save more, more regularly and in diversified options
  • Has a strategy to target specific cohorts or users
  • As they learn, and benefit from investing, we will provide more features to match their development and give them more, safe, options

Lessons learned

  • Selecting a USP based on real user problems will ensure your product meets real user needs
  • AI features that try to predict markets are likely going to fail at some point. Users will lose trust in a feature like this very quickly, and therefore the brand
  • Using ChatGPT and iOS design systems can enable you to desktop research and design pretty quickly. They reduce the cognitive load so you can think through the strategy (let's just hope ChatGPT isn't hallucinating ;)
